The village of Stanlow is a small one, even by Arcadian standards. All of its buildings were wood or simple stone. There weren't even Arcane streetlamps there, save for outside the inn. The Stanlow inn was about the only thing in Stanlow of note. It was a ten-bed inn and was one of two businesses in Stanlow. The other was the simple Stanlow General Store, which sold basic traveling supplies and the occasional Arcane Item. The rest of the village were farmers, woodcutters, and a single doctor. About one-to-two hundred Arcadians call this village thirty miles east of Ardale home normally.

And today, it was not normal. Maybe fifty were alive—and that number was dropping. A day and a half had passed since it attacked. It was reportedly the City-Slayer, the King of Death, the Emperor of Destruction, He Who Brings Oblivion. All of those were some of the many titles given to it. No one in Stanlow dared to speak its name, and none of the few helping hands there dared ask any more than they had to. Even if it were not it, it was obvious what had happened here. Two massive footprints and two matching hand, or rather—claw, prints were the only evidence needed. One didn't need to see the smoldering remains of tens of homes. One didn't need to see the bones that had been covered, chared muscle still clinging. All you had to do was look at those four marks to know a dragon had attacked.

Vaughn McLelland sat inside his wagon, drumming his fingers across his oak desk. He was reading a book—one about it no less—and enjoying a bowl of Archeomelo. When he was ready for another bite of the tangy yet sweet fruit, he impaled a piece with an steel toothpick with the precision and grace of a man who had much skill with a blade. Vaughn's form sat in a bored slump. This was the third or fourth time he's read the book and the second time today. On the back of his chair was a scarlet cloak which an emblem stitched into it piece-by-piece. It was a mask and two crossed swords beneath it. Most Arcadians knew it as the symbol of the Invisible Knights.

The Invisible Knights were a guild meant to fight. They were knights, as if the title wasn't obvious enough, and they were proud of it. They fought with honor and dignity. The Invisible Knights had been around for many years, and they were easily one of the strongest guilds in Arcadia. Vaughn was their leader, but he was not helping the reconstruction effort outside. Instead, he was preparing himself for whatever futile defense he'd have to come up with to save the people from it—if it came back.

"It's just not right..." Vaughn spoke up while chewing a glob of the fruit. And Vaughn wasn't entirely wrong. It wasn't right. What wasn't? Well, simply put, the destruction—or rather, the lack thereof. If it was really it, there should be nothing of this place left. And yet, there were survivors. A lot of them, initially. Had the Invisible Knights not been bogged down by mud, maybe more would have survived. Vaughn heard the roll of distant thunder and sighed as he closed the book. "Might as well see who has passed in this hour."

Only about fifteen men were up and about. Another five slept in another wagon—the night guard. Three of the fifteen men were stationed at various points in the village as lookouts. Four were still sifting through debris, seeing who else might have survived. Seven were busy tending to wounds—much to no avail, as they were all ill-equipped for actual healing. The last man was watching the weather from the Stanlow Inn's porch. That was Chevalier Forenzo, one of the strongest members of the Invisible Knights and the co-commander of this operation.

Vaughn decided to talk to him first, as all information would be given to the field commander first. Forenzo nodded in acknowledgement as the guild master arrived. "How many?" Vaugh asked, his tone knowing. Forenzo hesitated a moment. "Two. Probably three soon. If the assistance we requested doesn't arrive within the next hour, that is." There was a bit of spite in Forenzo's tone with that last bit, as if he were saying the name of someone who didn't hold the door open on a rainy day. "Faith, Forenzo. I have requested but the finest of healers. They are not too far off, but still they are farther off than we were." Forenzo just gave a sound of acknowledgement, still annoyed.

It was then that a figure appeared in the distance, along the only road that ran through the town. A single figure, it seemed. One of the knights on lookout ran back to the inn, saluted to Vaughn in surprise, and told him. "I think our reinforcements are here, sir." "I told you, Forenzo. Faith." Vaughn spoke with a smile, a smug one at that. Forenzo grunted and rolled his eyes.

As the woman neared, the knight that was on lookout whistled. She could not be more than thirty yards away when that happened. "Ain't she a beauty." Vaughn stepped down from the porch, placed a hand on the knight's shoulder, and spoke without looking at him. "If you wish to keep your lips, I advise you to act more proper when in the presence of such a lady." Vaughn kept up a warm, welcoming smile as he stepped forward, knelt down and kissed the lady's hand.

"You must be Lady..." Vaughn looked up to her, and got a good look at her. She was gorgeous. Even though she had been walking for god-knows how long, she was stunning. Part of it was, of course, the massive bosom in Vaughn's face, but even beyond that there was a beauty she had. It caught Vaughn off-guard for a moment, and he actually hesitated. "Lady Aranhartte. Thank you for answering our request. I wish we could have met under different circumstances."

"Please, this way." Vaughn led Lillianna to the inside of the inn—the only building with enough of a roof to house the few survivors. "These are all that have survived so far. As you can tell," he spoke in a low tone, "most of their wounds are burns. They claim it was..." Vaughn inhaled sharply and whispered the name that no one dared speak, "Endellion."

"They were... attacked? What do you mean? How many lives were lost?" were the only words that the horrified leader of Aria Grand could muster when she got the news. Her aid was being requested; Did they have no other healers or was it really as bad as she feared? Of course, Lillianna accepted and was out of Aria within the hour. For the first few hours of her journey, she had a friends help. He provided her with a summoned horse, but it would only last for so long. The spectral beast vanished after six hours, but had gotten her far enough that the rest of her journey would only take about thirty minutes. Lillianna continued on.

From a distance, she could see the destruction that the dragon had caused and sighed, wondering how many graves would be created, or how many already had. As she approached, she heard some sort of whistle and looked toward the guard who had done it with a raised eyebrow. She would have confronted him if she hadn't been greeted in respect. In fact, she had completely forgotten about the rude whistle because her hand had been kissed in the manner of a queen. She was taken aback by this behavior and therefore fell silent. Surprised blinks were her only response for the moment. His hesitation was also noted; Had these men been starved of women for some time? She'd have to keep on her guard! Of course, Lillianna wasn't fully aware of how beautiful she was. She just liked her hair, quite a lot. It was pretty and soft and long and nice. Just how she liked it.

"You're welcome, though I cannot see any decent person not answering it." Lillianna replied, "And you are lord Vaughn McLelland, if I remember the name correctly?" She was looking around at the damage that had been done. The heartbreak could easily been seen on her face as she was led on. They reached the shelter that the survivors were resting in and Lillianna was understandably disappointed. This was all that was left? They should be moved to Ardale; They could not stay here long. After healing them, she would suggest it. Vaughn explained the 'Endellion' situation and Lillianna let out a quick chuckle. "Oh my goodness. I apologize greatly, but no, no, no, no." Lillianna shook her head as she whispered to him, "I know it is close to his time to reappear, but I assure that if Endellion was the one who attacked here, you would not need me."

"To ease everyone's fears... I understand how a Legendary Dragon can seem so, but no..." Lillianna spoke up for everyone to hear, "It was not Endellion that attacked this village. Endellion is large enough to cover most of Aria, if not all of it. If the dragon that attacked your home returns, it will not live to see the next day." She smiled. It was that smile. Though her guild had come to fear it, she doubted those here would understand it's significance. The tone still held a heavy promise, almost a threat. "Now... please, show me those with the more severe injuries; I will start with them first." Lillianna brought her hands up to tie her hair behind her back and looked to Vaughn to lead her.

It's not as though the Invisible Knights were starved for women or anything. A good third or fourth of their memberbase were capable of bearing children—and a few already had. But Lillianna was more like the first spring breeze after a harsh and cold winter. She was a beacon of light after seeing the village only hours after it was decimated. She was warm like the summer sun, and although her hair could be compared to the color of the ashes that scattered across the village, it would still be as stark of a contrast as if her hair was as black as night.

"Yes, you did remember correctly." Vaughn stood, nodding and still carrying that same smile. That was until she broke as she was led to the inn. Heartbreak rose through her cheeks and into her eyes. Vaughn immediately picked up on it. Seeing the inside of the half-roofed in would be worse. Fifty people lay inside the hall, the worst of them in the bedrooms, isolated. Moans and heavy breathing were constant. Bloody gauze sat in bins beside wounded men and women. A child curled close to its unconscious mother. And that was just in the main room.

Vaughn explained the situation silently, but she seemed to have a more light-hearted reply. She had been on the same train of thought that he was. Vaughn nodded in agreement. The room went silent as Lillianna spoke up, and Vaughn stood still, gazing out at his men. Despite a third of their guild being women, not a single one was on this mission. He didn't want to see a woman witness what he saw firsthand. Even he was not able to keep down his meal. "The bedrooms are where the worst-off are."

Forenzo stepped inside, shutting the wooden door behind him. "Ah, Forenzo. Where is the one you were speaking to me earlier about?" "Room six." Forenzo spoke without any inflection at all. He was the most affected by being in here, and he quickly left. "Follow me." Vaughn led Lillianna to the other side of the inn, directly opposite of them. The maze of groaning survivors was hard to navigate, but Vaughn didn't look down.

"Here. We have no name for her, but..." Vaughn opened the door to reveal a woman lying in a bed. She was almost entirely covered in bandages, and she only had a single arm—the stump still tightly wrapped in bandages. "I had to amputate her arm to get her clear of the debris. Well... it was practically already amputated when I got to her. She was buried under one of the houses, and she's the only one left that we saved like that." Vaughn spoke without a hint of any emotion in his tone. It was like a doctor reading the chart during an annual check-up. It was because that's what he had to do. He couldn't break down, not here.

As Lillianna stepped forward to start to heal, Vaughn spoke up. "I am glad that I was not incorrect in my assumption. If it had been the City-Slayer, I would imagine that such a tiny village would have been turned completely to ash with no survivors, let alone surviving buildings." Vaughn sat down on one of the two chairs in the room, this one by the door. "I have two men scouting in the direction the dragon came from. I recieved word half an hour ago that they might have found something, and one is returning with more details. Since you seem to know more about dragonkind than I do, I would like for you to hear it as well. Your opinion would most likely be helpful in determining the course of action I will take to slay the beast."

Well, there was only one thing that Lillianna could do now and she began immediately, starting with the heavily injured woman. The suffering that one showed was immense. Were they burns? Is that why she was covered in bandages? It looked like she had taken a large amount of a fire dragon's breath attack if that was the case. "Just... leave it to me." Lillianna said. This was going to be harder than she originally thought. For one, this woman was heavily damaged and her healing was going to take a while, but beyond that, how many more were there? Lillianna began by placing a Full-Body Restoration spell on this woman. She concentrated heavily on this one for five minutes before moving to the next. Since the spell would linger until Lillianna pulled it off, there was no reason to not go heal the others. She moved to the next most severely injured and did the same. This process repeated until she had all of those who were severely injured covered.

Then she had to stop. Lillianna sat down in the middle of the hallway and sat in a meditation position. She kept her eyes closed and let the spells do their work. Her energy was so heavy and thick as it emitted from her body that traces of her white glowing and smokey Arcana seemed to seep outwards toward the injured, surrounding their bodies as the healing was done. These injured people took her concentration and a large portion of her energy. Luckily, three of them were fully healed within an hour and those spells dropped, easing Lillianna's energy output and allowing her to concentrate more thoroughly on the others.

Hours passed and even the woman with the amputated arm had been healed enough to move; She also had her arm back. The moment that arm was restored, everyone that was severely injured was stable and much, much better off. They were not perfect, but they were well enough to walk around and move. "I... think... that will do... for now..." Lillianna's head fell forward in a slump. Her face and chest were soaked with sweat. Her hair was sticking to her head and her skin was pale. She was not hurt, but she had used such a massive amount of energy without taking a break over the last six hours that it was not surprising she looked so horrible. That beauty they were talking about when she arrived was still there, but looked sickly and very very weak.

"I can't move..." she muttered to herself, though if someone heard her she would not fuss. Her breathing was labored. "Are they alright?" she forced voice louder, trying to get some sort of confirmation that they were well, especially the heavily bandaged woman.

Vaughn followed her, showing Lillianna the most gravely wounded first. It was... amazing. Vaughn had never seen a mass-healing in action. Few actually had. She seemed more amazing than before by far. Beauty and power? Hell, she was like a female him. In fact, she was his opposite in a few ways. The main one being the fact that he was a man and she was a woman. But the one that Vaughn first picked up on was completely different. She had ash-silver hair, while he had char-black. But they did have one thing in common. Their eyes. They weren't too far off in all honest. While she had those beautiful, soft mulberry eyes, Vaughn had stark, strong vermilion eyes.

"Yes, they should be fine now. They're still unconscious, but they." Vaughn looked to Lillianna. "You look exhausted, and the worst have been healed. I think you have earned a rest. Please, I offer you my bed for the night." Vaughn offered his own bed to her, not wanting her to be grouped in with the brutes in the other wagons. If not, he'd arrange something else for her. But one thing that did not happen over those six hours had Vaughn very, very concerned. His scouts had not returned. Neither of them, and they had said they would. That was not normal. Not one bit.

The rest of the night went on without much of a hitch. Not a single person died, and many people seemed to be in higher spirits. The power of a beautiful lady, it seems. Why couldn't handsome men have the same effect? Sexist gods. And even that night, the scouts didn't return. Vaughn noticed this in the morning, and his face hardened into worry. Vaughn was the first to greet Lillianna as she awoke as he stepped back inside of his wagon. He was not wearing a shirt, and his hair was still wet from the bucket shower he had just gotten out of. "Lady Aranhartte, I did not mean to wake you. But good morning, no less."

Vaughn found a dry shirt and put it on, followed by a suit of mail. "We did not lose another person last night, thanks to you. Our other group should be arriving shortly. We'll take them back to Ardale for more sustained treatment, as per your suggestion." Vaughn finished dressing himself by putting on a black shirt over the mail. "Unfortunately, that seems to be all the good news I have this morning. We have yet to hear from our scouts that were supposed to report back yesterday. I fear for them, although I have faith that they will return."

Lillianna was not going to wake throughout that night. It was possible that the sound of a dragons roar would only get a "five more minutes" in reply. Before she slept, she bathed and that was it. There was no way a lady would sleep in someone else's bed covered in the sweat and grime from a long walk and a hard days work. That was just rude and unsanitary. Being able to lay back and relax without the worry of brutes surrounding her gave Lillianna the freedom to sleep and sleep quite well.

The next morning, she woke to the sound of someone entering the wagon. Her eyes fluttered open and she quickly sat up to see Vaughn come in. He apologized, but she shook her head and waved a hand. "No need to apologize. Thank you for allowing me to sleep here tonight." she stood up and straightened out her clothing. She took note of him being shirtless and raised an eyebrow. "Trying to show off?" she said with a giggle, stepping over to him and poking lightly at his well-toned stomach, "I can't blame you. You take good care of yourself, Lord McLelland."

Vaughn explained the situation with his men and Lillianna too became worried. Though he said he had faith, she doubted he wasn't worried. Could something have happened to them? If so, then what was it? The dragon? Bandits? An accident? There were so many possibilities, but being held up by weather or a closed road were one's that Lillianna was hoping more for. "When they do return," she spoke up with a kind tone, "We will have the meeting you spoke of, yes? What will we do until then? Do people need more healing? I can tend to them if that is the case..."

It wasn't a moment later that things outside seemed to get a little chaotic, at least by ear. Lillianna hurried to the exit and looked out to see what was going on. Some of Vaughn's men were rushing to the aid of others. Lillianna's eyes widened and she turned back toward Vaughn. "I believe your men have returned," Lillianna said and shook her head, "He does not look well." Lillianna hurried from the wagon and over to the side of the one man who returned. "Move! Let me heal him." Lillianna said, immediately beginning to heal the man, "Oh my... Young man... Please tell me what did this do you? Where is your friend?"

Vaughn let out a small chuckle. "No, no. I would not be wearing pants if I were trying to show off. And I would have you around my arm as well." He spoke in a joking tone. He blushed a little when she complimented him though. It was not every day that someone so beautiful would give him such a compliment. "I can say the same about you, Lady Aranhartte. You seem to take good care of your body as well."

Vaughn was about to answer her when he heard the shouts outside. Vaughn ran out right behind Lillianna, so she wasn't able to tell him in time. Vaughn saw the wounded man lying there. He darted alongside Lillianna. "Knight Rashid, what the devil happened?" Rashid, the sole survivor, looked to Lillianna, then to Vaughn. "My lord... it... it ate him. Whole. One bite, and he was gone...." Rashid's brown eyes were practically all white, fear burned into them.

Vaughn punched the ground, hard. "It... it was a dragon.... black... larger than I have seen or heard of... My lord... run..." "Knight Rashid, shut your mouth." Vaughn spoke harshly. He did not give half a damn about propriety. "I will not run from this. We owe Knight Tristain that much. We owe the villagers here much, much more than that. And so I will bring them its head." Vaughn's men stared in shock, as it was not common for Vaughn to speak so harshly.

"Where?" "A few miles south... a crater seems to be its nest." "Thank you, Knight Rashid. Rest now." Rashid smiled as the healing continued. Vaughn stood up, his face hard and dark. "I'm going. Chevalier Forenzo, I leave you in charge while I am gone." Vaughn grabbed his cloak and longswords from a hanger inside of his room and moved to the wagon positioned behind his personal one.

The wagon was odd. It looked more like multiple iron boxes welded together. Each one had a door, and there was a larger box at the rear with a double-door. Vaughn walked around it, placing a hand on each door, but hesitated as he got to the rear. "Knights, awaken!" Vaughn's voice was different. A thrum of magical energy came through it, and the air around the wagon was filled with enough energy to make it feel like someone was walking through water. And it faded just as quickly as it came forth.

The iron doors slid open—save for the rear—revealing their inhabitants. Ten suits of armor, each made of glimmering steel, stood with spear and shield ready. "Stay in the cargo bay, unless we are attacked. Today, we hunt a dragon!" The knights made no sound themselves, as they were not people. They were suits of armor inhabitated by soldiers made by Vaughn's Arcana, so to speak. They were moreso just animated armor. But even though there was no rallying war cry, the suits of armor beat spear against shield. "Lady Aranhartte. I ask—would you like to partake in this hunt?" Vaughn was initially planning on going alone. But he wanted to show the Guild Master of Aria Grand just why the Invisible Knights were ranked so near them.

Lillianna did not know Vaughn well, or any of these men, so no behavior was shocking to her. It was just how he must be, a normal part of his personality. Even though she might have handled it differently, she had no right to criticize him; these men followed him for a reason. Also, his actions were actually similar to what she would have done, so change wasn't exactly a thing. Lillianna just listened and healed this man. The fear in his eyes upset her. It angered her. An innocent man was swallowed whole, huh? That's what happens when you fall into the territory of a mindless beast. That is what this dragon must have been. Lillianna knew that many dragons could be friends to humans, to love them, and even guide them at times, but this dragon was nothing of the sort. This dragon was evil and needed to be taken down.

Vaughn went to get ready as she was finishing up this man's healing. She was standing up when she felt a strange shift in power coming from a large wagon Vaughn was near. She said nothing as he gave his speech and smirked as the sounds of hitting shields echoed through the air. Lillianna took in a deep breath and looked to Vaughn again as he approached her. "Lillianna." she said as she dusted off her skirt and smiled, "And my dear, you couldn't keep me from this fight." There was that smile again, the one her guild feared. This time, there was a fire in her eyes that shined with determination. Today, Lillianna Aranhartte was going on a dragon hunt with some knights.

Whether they were walking or riding, the group would arrive almost an hour later and the crater that had been spoken of. Lillianna asked to stop quite a distance out to prepare for this fight. If her request was refused, she'd stay back and prepare herself. If allowed, it would take her about five minutes. It would be noticed that the sky would turn dark, clouds forming quicker than what was natural over head and Lillianna had her own power shift. After she finished, she gave a nod and continued along with them, moving stealthily through the area until they'd be able to find the dragon. "So, how exactly do you want to handle this? I'm following your lead." she said with a smile, ready to go.

"I am sure I could, one way or another. But I would not care to bind a lady for too long." Vaughn stretched out a hand towards Lillianna to help her onto the wagon's seat. "And if I may call you by your first name, then I must ask that you do the same for me. Vaughn, if you please." Vaughn smiled a bit, trying to keep composure. But behind that smile, he was angry. One of his men had died. This dragon would pay.

Vaughn and Lillianna left alone. His men did not join him, but the large iron wagon did. If she asked, Vaughn would explain his magic would suffice, and that no more lives needed to be lost against this dragon. He would not, however, explain what was in the back. That was a secret, his ace in the hole. Vaughn did oblige Lillianna's request, and his knights all dismounted. One took up the reigns of the wagon and the other seven stood in front of Vaughn and Lillianna, their shields and spears pointed at the road ahead.

"I am not one for subtly, Lillianna. I do not have the magic for it, nor is it something I want to do. It might be best if w—" The world went silent. Silent for one thing, as nothing could be heard over the guttural roar that swept from the skies. Vaughn's eyes widened, his hands burring to draw his swords. "KNIGHTS, DEFEND." Vaughn yelled. The one at the reigns jumped down, pressing the iron stake brakes into the ground as it did.

And above them, the sky went darker. A black mass, larger than anything Vaughn had ever seen, swooped down and landed in front of the line of spectral knights. They raised their spears to stop its charge, but it didn't move. Its jaw was long and crocodiline. It was too long and narrow, teeth sticking out in random spurts. And it smiled. The black scales might make it hard to see shadows, but it was obvious that this thing was smiling. "I have opened one tin can today," the dragon spoke, "but do I really have to open this many more?"

"The beast can talk?!" Vaughn exclaimed, thinking this was some horrid monster with no intelligence left. But no. It seemed to have some. That was scary. That was terrifying. But there was something in its eyes and the way it dribbled and frothed that made Vaughn realize that this thing wasn't all there anyways. It looked like a rabid dog. A big, scaly, winged dog. "You, beast, have no place here! Your destruction ends today, and I will bring your head back with me, so help me Adonas!" And with that, the fight began.

Vaughn's knights charged the creature, and it let out a roar and bellowed out fire. They continued to advance. They didn't care for heat, even though the edges of their armor melted. This surprised the beast, and it instead swiped at them with a claw. It took a few by their legs, ripping them clean off. But they still continued, crawling forward. That is when he noticed it. "You have conjured spectres to fight me?!" It bellowed and focused its eyes on Vaughn. Vaughn stood firm, his eyes stern. This beast did not deserve a reply.

That roar was something Lillianna shuddered at. It was familiar, yet strange. She had fought a beast like this before and it caused her a lot of pain. It was difficult to bring down, though one mistake allowed Lillianna the win. Would this be the same? No, this time she had a friend, an ally that she was going to fight beside. When the massive beast made it's appearance, Lillianna was not surprised. She seemed like she expected it. She was going to observe first, not wanting to run in. And soon, her first question was answered. What was it's element? Fire. A wave of fire overwhelmed the armored knights that Vaughn had made. It was part of his power, right? Yes, she remembered. Lillianna had indeed asked him about his abilities while they were on their journey here. They needed something to do or talk about during that trip. Either way, fire. That bit of information aided them both.

"One... two... three... Four... Five." Lillianna seemed to just be standing off, not participating in anything, but that was not what was happening. Actually, she was casting multiple spells on Vaughn at this point, allowing him an easier way of fighting this monster. The first  and second spell was a fire resistance spell, giving him 75% resistance to fire because it was done twice. The third was a strength enhancer, giving him a boost to strength. Theh fourth was a speed enhancer and the fifth was her Dragon Skin spell. All of this talking was foolish if you were going up against Lillianna; She's only use it to buff herself and her allies. In this case, she was buffing her ally. With each spell, Vaughn would feel it being put on him. His muscles would feel denser, his body lighter, his skin harder, and the heat was no way near as much of a bother as it would have been before. This was a good start.

"Tell me..." Lillianna spoke up to this rabid dragon of destruction, "Why would a being such as yourself, a might Legendary Dragon of fire... fall so low as to attack the weak and the innocent? Why did you take so many lives? What was the point of it all?" Lillianna didn't think Vaughn wanted to sit back and talk to the thing. Neither did she, but she needed her own buffs as well. There was also something about this dragon that just felt off. She had never seen one so... ugly before. It's teeth were strange. It's attitude was strange. The fact that it had come of age enough to speak to humans and was attacking them was also strange. She didn't understand it, but she wanted to. During this time, thunder began to sound and lightning cracked a few times. Lillianna's Arcana started to thicken, making the area around a little dense with Arcana, which the dragon would more than likely notice.

"The point? Simple. Choice." That was all the thing said, its mouth twisting more into a smile. Vaughn knew that talking to this thing was impossible. It was a waste of time and effort. But if he knew it, Lillianna would as well. She was buying time. Vaughn noticed that he had buffs, his body feeling more fluid and strong. He would have to tell her that he wasn't going to be the best at fighting this thing, but oh well. He had to not let this magic go to waste now.

The remaining knights finally made it to the dragon, and tried to impale him. Nothing. The wooden-shafted spears snapped as they made contact with the scales of the black beast. It laughed. "I am Xalanth, Champion of Black! Do you really think such feeble attemp—" Vaughn slashed at the dragon. Talking was not a free action here, and Vaughn had charged during its monologue. He screamed in defiance as each of his swords struck into the chest of the dragon.

It bled. And when it bled, the dragon roared. "Xalanth, your title is nothing! I will bring your head to the families of those you have slain!" Vaughn kept deftly dodging the tail and claws of the dragon, eventually parrying a claw with both of his swords. But he wasn't going to win, even with these odds. Power, more power than when he activated eight of his stronger knights, thrummed through the air. "Argafleur! Awaken, ye guardian of crimson steel!"

The groaning of steel echoed as the two doors at the rear of the carriage swung open. Two, then four arms reached out, pulling a massive figure out. It stood twelve feet tall, and the swords it reached for were as tall as Vaughn, if not taller. This was Argafleur, the Crimson Knight. It was Vaughn's ultimate weapon and something with years of enchantments on it. "Lillianna, try not to hit my guardian, would you?" Vaughn spoke as the giant steel figure stepped beside her.

"Argafleur. Kill this beast." This time, there was a noise. A roar that could match Xalanth's echoed from within. The massive crimson armor charged, and Xalanth swung at it with its tail. It lost that tail in a single sweep of Argafleur's greatsword. "This is my personal guardian, the Knight of Crimson, the Armored Titan, Argafleur. Xalanth, die by our hands!" And the two began striking the beast in tandem.

Choice? That was it? There was something about that answer that bothered her. What the hell was this dragon's story? Choice? A simple answer, but dark and vague. Lillianna did want to know more. She was curious, but the time for talk had ended. This beast had gone to far and Lillianna would not put Vaughn through that. This monster needed no second chance. It did not need to give it's excuse. It needed only to die. And by their hands, it would die. Buffs were up and Lillianna was ready to fly. Vaughn may not have been able to fight this thing very well, but the buffs were only going to aid him. He could dodge much easier and if he got hit, it wouldn't hurt as much. A fighter or not, the buffs she put on him were important and quite useful.

The battle began and the knights that were originally sent could not effect this giant beast. This didn't surprise Lillianna. The dragon seemed very concentrate don Vaughn, which was giving her enough time to charge up for her own attack. She'd end this beast. She'd humiliate him by ending his life with a single shot. The wind picked up and focused around Lillianna's body, whirling around her until she was lifted in the air. She quickly brought herself high, high, high above the dragon. Thunder boomed and lightning cracked above her, moving through the sky as if preparing for something. Lightning began to gather above her and collect in a large swirl. Vaughn then summoned a large guardian, something that intrigued Lillianna when she saw it.

"Don't worry, I won't." Lillianna said. For a moment, the beast had noticed her position and aimed to strike at her. She narrowed her eyes and smiled. "Don't take your eyes off your enemy." Lillianna said as the guardian struck at this untamed monster. The guardian, Argafleur, struck and struck hard. The overgrown lizard let out a roar of pain as it was once more forced to bleed. Lillianna waited and watched, witnessing the interesting magic that Vaughn possessed while she continued waiting for her attack to be ready. "What did I tell you?" Lillianna spoke up again to get Xalanth's attention. The large black dragon roared again, being damaged heavily by the guardian it could not catch, but then looked up to Lillianna, who just continued to smile.

"What?!" he yelled, knowing that he was being mocked. "You don't remember?" Lillianna asked and then pointed down at him. Her hair began to blow about, floating around her. Her eyes even glowed white, as if the Arcana she was using was strong enough to fill her body as well. When she spoke, a light like lightning shined out of her mouth. "Don't take your eyes off your enemy." Lillianna spoke. The dragon opened it's mouth in anger and shot a wave of fire upwards at Lillianna. The flames seemed to completely envelope her. When the attack finished, Xalanth laughed and began turning it's head back toward Vaughn. As he turned his head, he stopped when the glowing woman of white just appeared on his nose with her finger pointed at his eye. And still, he found that Lillianna was just smiling at him, like he was nothing.

"Told you." she said and a massive bolt of lightning shot forth, completely wrapping around the entire head of the dragon. With no time to even let out a roar of pain, Xalanth body began to fall. Lillianna's energy calmed, but only because she practically depleted it for that attack. She stood on top of Xalanth as he began to fall. She fell with, leaning back away form the beast and began to fall a far distance to the ground. She looked to the ground, her eyes wide in fear as she watched it coming closer and had no power or ability to stop herself from falling. The skies had cleared, the clouds were gone. The energy she had collected vanished with the attack and now Lillianna was falling to her death. She wrapped her arms around her head and screamed, "AAAAAHHH!"

The two-pronged tandem began to twist into a three-way. No, not in that sense. Well, not yet at least. Lillianna was distracting the beast while Vaughn and Argafleur wailed on it with their swords. Xalanth's wings brushed wind like a tsunami towards them, but the knights stood firm, swords acting as makeshift pitons. Argafleur struck at the wings with one of its three swords. It ripped enough of a tear to make the thing unusable. Again, the dragon roared.

That is when Vaughn noticed it. His hair stood up on end, an ungodly amount of power flowing through the air. Argafleur might have that much energy entirely. But this was conjured in only a few minutes, if not a few seconds. Vaughn did exactly what Lillianna was warning the dragon not to do, and gazed back at her. She looked like a being of nature, more pure and beautiful than even the highest and noblest of elves. Xanalth roared again, a fire gushing forth like a stream of pure anger.

And it hit Lillianna dead-on. Vaughn's eyes flew wide in rage, and he turned back towards Xanalth to strike at him. Xanalth finished its fiery attack and turned to Vaughn to do the same thing. It didn't have a chance to. Lillianna, her form still bathed in light, stood on its nose. She said something that Vaughn could not hear, and a bolt of lightning enveloped its head. Vaughn wasn't sure if it came from the heavens or from her index finger. It was too brilliant to tell.

The head evaporated. There wasn't anything left of its head as she finished, and its body writhed without the capability of making a pained roar. It was like a chicken, the body still moving on instinct and reflexes rather than anything controlled. Lillianna went limp midair, her energy finally drained. She began to fall, and Vaughn heard her scream. "Argafleur, Rook to B2!" The crimson titan acknowledged the command and lowered one of its blades so Vaughn could step on it. Then, the titan swung the blade upwards, springing Vaughn into the air.

Before she had made it halfway to the ground, Lillianna was in Vaughn's arms. Argafleur's other sword blurred beneath them, allowing Vaughn a place to land with the damsel in his arms. She was light, but that might have been the buffs. Vaughn smiled, but kept her in his arms even as he stepped off of the blade as it was lowered. "That was mighty impressive, Lillianna. I can see why you are the guild master of Aria Grand. You look tired, please, why don't I carry you to the wagon?" Vaughn asked, a smile on his face. It wasn't because he just wanted to carry the pretty lady. No, not at all.

"Xanalth was acting strangely. I've never seen a dragon, even a water dragon, froth at the mouth like that. It reminds me of the rabid animals I have seen around Ardale... Had its brain remained intact, I assume we could have found traces of a disease or something." Vaughn turned to the remaining knights. "Collect a sample of its flesh, from around its spine." The suits of armor nodded and pulled out swords to begin cutting a section of meat out from its body. "Are you all right, Lillianna?" Vaughn asked, still not letting her down.

"AHHHH!" Super rapid arm flail of fear! That is what was happening as Lillianna fell. Her scream came to a sudden stop when she hit something, but it was not the ground. She looked up to Vaughn, an innocent shine in her eyes as she blinked at him. Her expression was curious, but that fell quickly as she was complimented. She liked him; He was cute. She smiled and leaned her head in to his chest. "Thank you Vaughn." she replied with a tired voice, "I could say the same about you. Your power is impressive, highly." She sounded tired, like she could fall asleep at any second. This wasn't the case though; she was just drained.

"Choice..." Lillianna spoke up as Vaughn explained that beasts odd behavior, "Why choice? Why would a dragon choose to suddenly become evil? To kill? Usually dragons of his age are gentle, otherwise he would have been killed years ago, before he got to this power..." Lillianna sighed and shook her head. She feared Vaughn to be right. If there were some sort of disease, this would be a problem. How far was it spreading? How fast did it infect? "If you don't mind... before it's Arcana completely fades, can you have them take a sample of that too?" Lillianna looked up to Vaughn, asking sweetly, "Though it's blood made be what is contaminated, I'm curious how this may effect it's energy..."

Lillianna nodded weakly to Vaughn. "I will be okay... I've just used a large amount of Arcana over these two days..." Lillianna explained, comfortably lying in Vaughn's arms. If she didn't have to walk, she wasn't going to. It was nice to actually have a strong man carry her anyway. "I haven't entirely had enough time for my Arcana to naturally restore, so I haven't been at full power," she explained with her eyes now closed and her voice becoming more and more quiet as time passed, "Once I sleep... I believe... I'll be able to..." Lillianna fell asleep, shifting in Vaughn's arms by curling more into him. As if on instinct, she reached up and gripped onto his shirt, the buffs they had fading away.

    "Night, Vaughn..."
