    Salan Hierarchy

    Salan Hierarchy

Salaneos is ruled by the Archmage and the Mageías Council. The Mageías Council are chosen from the Arcanists within Salaneos, and they are usually the strongest Arcanists there. The Mageías Council operates as the legislative and executive branch of the Salan government. The Helia is the Salan judicial branch, which is no more than judges, known as Heliasts, and lawyers, known as Dikasts. The Helia answers to the Mageías Council, and the Mageías Council can overrule the Helia's decision. The Helia only has power when it comes to judging someone guilty or not guilty of a crime. Each settlement with over 100 people is sent a mayor, known as an Armostís, by the Mageías Council. Salaneos's military is smaller than most. They are known as the Spartans. The Spartans of Salaneos are a rough and ready group of combat Arcanists. There are only eight groups of Spartans, each one protecting one of the eight major cities. The commander of a group of Spartans is known as a Sciritae. Hoplites are non-Arcanist members of the Spartans. With enough service in the Hoplites, a non-Arcanist can become a full citizen. Becoming a Hoplite is the only way to escape becoming a legal slave in Salaneos.
